When you are feeling down, remember that you are not alone. Here are some of my favorite prayers and bible verses to help you remember that you can always turn to God.
The Beatitudes of Jesus
Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Gospel of St. Matthew 5:3-10
Love is Patient Love is Kind
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves.
- 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Sometimes we forget what it means to really love someone. It is not just a feeling, it is a practice of being loving, even during the hard times, when the feeling of love may not be so spontaneous.
Turning to God for help
I hear the Savior say,
"Thy strength indeed is small;
Child of weakness, watch and pray,
Find in Me thine all in all."
Lord, now indeed I find
Thy power, and Thine alone,
Can change the leper's spots
And melt the heart of stone
- Fernando Ortega, "Jesus Paid It All"
I love these verses from this song because they help me remember that we really need to turn to God for help. His power to change our lives is truly awesome. I used to think I could accomplish things on my own, thereby boosting my confidence and my ego. But after countless failed attempts, and repeating the same mistakes, I finally found that praying to God and asking for his help is the only way I can really see true positive change in my life.
Serenity Prayer (Full Version)
This is a wonderful prayer to help you through the hard times in life. Trusting in Jesus, and knowing that He will make things right.
God, give us grace to accept with serenity
the things that cannot be changed,
courage to change the things
which should be changed,
and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as a pathway to peace,
Taking, as Jesus did,
This sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it,
Trusting that You will make all things right,
If I surrender to Your will,
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with You forever in the next.
- Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971)
The good shepherd leads and protects you
Share in King David's prayer to God, our caring Shepherd and dependable guide. Following this loving leader is our only hope for eternal life and security.
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The Peace Prayer of St. Francis
Find peace and understanding in this beautiful prayer by St. Francis. It reminds me to live with love in my heart. Especially when things go bad in our lives, we can look to the love that is Jesus within us. He gives us the ability to love through all the pain and sorrow.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred . . . let me sow love
Where there is injury . . . pardon
Where there is doubt . . . faith
Where there is despair . . .hope
Where there is darkness . . . light
Where there is sadness . . .joy
grant that i may not so much seek
To be consoled . . .as to console
To be understood . . .as to understand,
To be loved . . . as to love
For it is in giving . . .that we receive,
It is in pardoning, that we are pardoned,
It is in dying . . .that we are born to eternal life
- St. Francis of Assisi
The Wife of Noble Character
This bible verse describes a hard-working, selfless, and amazing woman, who truly deserves her reward in heaven.
wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.
considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
"Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all."
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
