9 Months

Time is zooming by. The kids are keeping me busy everyday. Baby J is now 10 months old. Here is a summary of his 9 month accomplishments:

  • Got a top front tooth (we call him snaggletooth now :-)
  • Dances to music (sways his upper body from side to side)
  • Climbed up a flight of stairs and back down (backwards, of course) by himself
  • Climbed up a play structure at the mall play area
  • Stands unassisted sometimes

And some other interesting facts:

  • Loves music
  • Loves to play instruments, like toy flutes, drums, and guitars
  • Loves asian noodle soups, like pho and ramen
  • Like his sister, he also loves mac & cheese
  • Still gets swaddled for sleep in his swing for naps and early morning waking
  • His sister makes him laugh (and cry sometimes)
  • Very happy disposition and smiling most of the time
  • Definitely knows his name and the rest of the family members
  • Loves other babies and children
  • Wakes up every morning around 5 or 6, but goes back down when swaddled and put in the swing

He is a real joy to be around. He is so cute and cuddly, and growing up so fast!

8 Months

Wow, 8 months is almost up. I thought I'd summarize his accomplishments.

  • Likes to pull himself up to standing all the time
  • Pushes buttons to make music play on his toys
  • Climbs up a couple of stair steps

And some other interesting facts:

  • Thinks peek-a-boo is really funny (and bug eyes)
  • Sleeps ok (in the swing and in bed with me and his sister)
  • Still likes to be swaddled (although he's growing out of the biggest size)
  • Twists a lot when getting diaper changed
  • Loves playing with his big sister
  • Back to drooling a lot (top teeth coming in soon?)
  • Very social, likes other people, adults, children, and babies

His First Tooth!

He got his first tooth cutting through the other day. He's been pretty cranky the past couple of days. I let him play with his toothbrush while his sister brushes her teeth in the evening. He seems to like that. And she enjoys watching him "brush his teeth" too.

He's a little character. He is voicing his opinion when his sister tries to take toys away, or if I don't let him play with something, or if he gets frustrated. He bounces back pretty easily when he falls down. He cries a little and then helps himself back up. He's becoming an expert crawler. I'm sure he enjoys exploring all over the house and getting into everything (my shoes, his sister's toys, and daddy's cords).

He seems to understand when I tell him not to put something in his mouth. He loves to play with my house slippers. I tell him that he can play with it but "don't put it in your mouth". He stops in his tracks and looks at me. Then he proceeds to play with it without putting it in his mouth.

Clapping Hands

Baby J started clapping his hands the other day. Watching Daddy do it, he had to try it himself. And today he started clapping on his own for me, just for the fun of it, without me initiating it. He is still a smiley happy little dude. He loves to explore, just as most babies do, especially the plethora of his sister's toys.

I started trying to teach him not to crawl off the bed. By letting him fall forward as he crawled off, but holding onto his legs, so that he would dangle a little uncomfortably over the edge of the bed. After doing that a few times, holding onto dear life and shrieking a bit, he doesn't seem so interested in what's past the edge of the bed so much. We'll see...

7 Months

Baby J has gotten so active over the past 3 months. Which is why I haven't had much time to blog. Around 4 months old, he stopped sleeping through the night. Most likely because he was mentally working on sitting up, etc. Now at 7 months, he has really come a long way. Sleeping through the night has finally started getting better. It was a rough couple of months when he wasn't. But right around 6 months, he started getting better. Below is a quick synopsis of his accomplishments the past 3 months.

5 months - sitting up by himself

6 months - pushing himself to sitting from lying down

7 months - crawling, starting to sing along with us and some music

He loves his sister, enjoys watching her play, and tolerates her endless cuddles and playfulness. He is such a joy. As much as I love the time I have when he is sleeping, I love holding and hugging him.

4 Months

This past month, he's been changing a lot. His cries, when he wakes up, or wants something have turned into sort of a manly shriek, almost like a little puppy growl or something. It's really funny and kinda weird. I suppose my daughter did that too right about this time. Hers were more like regular shrieks, like a black crow, or a blue jay.

He can't sit up unasissted yet, but getting close. I can tell those stomach muscles are getting really strong. He's almost got a washboard. He leans forward a lot when he gets the chance to. He spends time sitting in his high chair, in the Bumbo, being propped into a sitting position with the Boppy, or bouncing in the Jumperoo

He still hates tummy time, but he can lift his head pretty well when he does it. He rolls over from tummy time every now and then. It's not consistent, and I think it depends on the surface that he's on, and how much energy he has at the time.

I told myself that I wouldn't start solid foods until he was 6 months old. But alas, I did. The pedi recommended it at his 4 month checkup to help him sleep better at night. I figured that was a myth, so although I did buy some rice cereal, I didn't want to give it to him right away. But he'd been eating and eating nonstop, it seemed. Every two hours or more frequently. So I figured he probably needed something a little heavier. Plus I was started to have pain during nursing because of the frequent feedings.

He loved eating the rice cereal, which I mixed with breast milk. And he looks forward to eating solids, on a regular basis. He goes nuts when I put the spoon to his mouth. He shrieks and asks for more, pulling the spoon toward him with his hands. I gave him a little bit of pork loin, ground up and mixed with breast milk, too. He liked it as well.

Sleep has gone to pot. I don't know what happened. He was sleeping long stretches at night, waking up only once in the night. Slowly, it went downhill. It got so bad that he was waking up every 45 minutes. Now it is every 2-3 hours at night. I've tried changing the sleeping surface, swaddling, not swaddling, changing the lighting, the temperature, feeding him solid food at night. Nothing seems to work. I don't know if he is so hungry throughout the night that he has to wake up. Or if he just can't seem to put himself back to sleep. He is getting a lot more sensitive to sounds while he's sleeping during the day, too. He used to be able to sleep through almost any noise. Now he wakes up when the Amazon Fresh truck comes by...

As far as playing, he is entertained by his sister, he likes his dangly toys in the play gym, he likes to chew on his teether toys, especially Sophie, and little Sophie. I hate to say it, but he loves watching TV, too. And of course, likes one-on-one attention from a loving human being.

He's definitely keeping me a lot busier. He is awake more, and likes a lot of interaction. It's lots of fun watching him develop into his own person.
