4.0 out of 5 stars A USP Rated Epsom Salt, May 10, 2017
By

This is one of only a few Epson Salt brands I found on Amazon with a USP purity rating. What does the U.S. Pharmacopeial (USP) stand for? It is a non-profit organization founded in 1820 in Rockville, Maryland with a government charter to test drug and food items for quality. This includes vitamins. The USP sets compendial standards for strength, quality, and the purity of drugs and foods. So this Epson Salt is safe to take internally if you wanted to use it in a tall glass of water as a laxative for example. It draws water into the intestinal track from the blood stream and acts as a flushing compound. It used to be called a purgative in the old days. I have heard that it produces explosive results. Although now-a-days it is no longer recommended for that purpose. It can be hard on the kidneys and liver when taken internally. There are much safer laxatives that you can buy in place of Epsom Salt. Epsom Salt also has a very bitter taste. Epsom Salt has an interesting history, you can... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Many health benefits and uses for Epsom Salt, November 30, 2014
By
Jill T (WEBSTER, NY, United States) - See all my reviews
I'm a huge fan of epsom salt's to put in the tub to soak in, and to put it in the cleaning products I am making. There are so many uses and benefits I can't even list them all; but, I'll give it a shot. Stress drains the body of magnesium and increases levels of adrenaline. When dissolved in warm water, Epsom salt is absorbed through the skin and replenishes the level of magnesium in the body. Some other health benefits include relaxing the nervous system, curing skin problems, soothing back pain and aching limbs, easing muscle strain, healing cuts, treating cold and congestion, and drawing toxins from the body.

5.0 out of 5 stars it definitely didn't make it worse., July 17, 2017
I bought this for use in my aquarium. It acts as a laxative for fish that are constipated/bloated by drawing out the excess liquids inside of them. I use one tablespoon in one gallon for 15 minute dips with my betta fish and although it didn't save him from his illness in the end, it definitely didn't make it worse.
